Tropical Storm the storm is projected to escalate to a uncommon Category 5 cyclone as it veers in the direction of Jamaica, bringing life-threatening sudden floods and landslides.

The hurricane, which recorded winds of up to 195 km/h as of 06:00 GMT, is presently veering northwest in the Caribbean Sea and is anticipated to make landfall by midweek, as reported by hurricane specialists.

Alerts of power cuts and damage to infrastructure have been issued as Melissa brings up to 76cm of rainfall and storm surges as high as 13ft above ground. "Seek shelter now," residents have been urged.

This hurricane is the 13th hurricane in the current Atlantic storm period, which usually concludes in late autumn.

Category Five Hurricane Risk

A highest-level hurricane is the most powerful category, with winds of at least 252 km/h.

Although this storm is set to reduce in intensity to a Category 4 storm before making landfall on the island, experts said there was "minimal real distinction in the overall impacts" upon reaching the coast, and that the hurricane will be "equally strong" when it impacts the island.

The country's head of government the official said: "I know that there are numerous residents who are worried, who are extremely apprehensive, and appropriately: worry is natural.

"But the most effective method to handle worry and any unease and worry is to stay ready."

Inhabitants are being instructed to protect their properties with sandbags and timber panels, and to accumulate essentials.

Alerts are also active for areas in the neighboring country such as the primary urban center, the neighboring country and the eastern part of Cuba, where this storm is projected to bring analogous consequences by the midweek period.
